Age Related Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a common eye condition that affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp, central vision. There are two main types: dry macular degeneration, which progresses slowly and causes a gradual loss of vision, and wet macular degeneration, which progresses rapidly and can cause severe vision loss. Symptoms of macular degeneration include:
- blurred or distorted vision
- difficulty seeing details
- straight lines appearing wavy or crooked
- dark or empty areas in the center of vision
It’s important to visit an ophthalmologist if you experience any of these symptoms, especially if they occur suddenly or worsen rapidly. Early detection and treatment can help slow the progression of macular degeneration and preserve vision.
