Matthew R. Kirk, MD. is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, glaucoma, and cataract surgery. Serving the community of La Jolla since 2007, Dr. Kirk is focused on providing the best quality of care for each patient he works with.

Dr. Kirk’s training includes Boston University School of Medicine, where he was selected to the Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society.  He did his internship at the Naval Hospital, San Diego and served as a flight surgeon with the 3rd Marine Air Wing at Camp Pendleton and abroad.

After his time in the military, Dr. Kirk went on to do his residency at the world-renowned Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was selected as a chief resident. He joined us at Eye Care of San Diego, La Jolla in 2007. 

In his personal time, Dr. Kirk enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with his family.

Dr. Kirk and all of our board certified ophthalmologists offer both traditional and LenSx® laser cataract surgery. During surgery, the cloudy lens is replaced with a clear intraocular lens (IOL) tailored to your vision goals. Options include: monofocal IOLs for sharp distance, toric lenses for astigmatism, multifocal and EDOF lenses for near-to-far clarity, and the innovative Light Adjustable Lens (LAL)—customized after surgery for precise results. With ORA® real-time measurements, we ensure optimal accuracy and reduced dependence on glasses.
